EDITORS' CODE OF PRACTICE COMMITTEE | INTRODUCING IPSO

The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) became the new regulatory body for the UK newspaper and magazine industry in September 2014.

IPSO has a wider remit than its predecessor, the Press Complaints Commission. It has a particular commitment to monitor and enforce compliance with the Editors' Code of Practice, which remains central to the self-regulatory system.

IPSO is not bound by the precedents of the PCC, though it may choose to use them. Inevitably there will be a process of reassessment and development resulting in policy and procedural changes.

This website, together with the Editors' Codebook, will be updated regularly to reflect those developments.

Meanwhile, in the interim, the examples of good practice and adherence to the Code outlined here continue to provide a useful guide for editors and journalists.
